Town may try to block demolition of 1930s mansion

Brookline officials are considering whether to block demolition of a $16 million Georgian Revival mansion on Cottage Street.
Red Sox owner John Henry, who bought the estate from Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt last month, filed demolition certificate applications with the town on Tuesday. 6th Annual Cooper Open


Dear Friends,



Thanks again to all those who participated in the 2006 Cooper Open. Through your generosity over $26,000 was raised at last year’s event. We hope to see as many of you as possible on Saturday, October 6th at the Sixth Annual Cooper Open to be held at Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, NH.



Since its inception, the Cooper Open has served a dual purpose, to show support for the Cooper family in their battle with Mitochondrial Disease and to raise money and more importantly awareness for an illness that receives little media attention.



As most of you know, all three Cooper girls are waging a battle with Mitochondrial Disease, a crippling foe characterized by a failure of a body’s cells to create the energy necessary to fuel the body and its respective organs. Notwithstanding the daily physical struggles these three girls face, the emotional and financial toll on the entire family as a result of the unpredictability of the disease is exhausting and draining. To have a day like this annually provides a huge boost to not only Ken, Deb and the girls, but also their extended family that works so hard to keep family life running smoothly.



The proceeds of the event benefit Marcel’s Way, a New Hampshire based non-profit group for those affected by Mitochondrial Disorders that offers support, information, and financial assistance to families like the Coopers that have been affected by this terrible disease (please see the attached letter for details).

Costa Rica


November 26th SAN JOSE - ARRIVAL

Arrival with US airways at 2:30pm. After clearing immigration continue down the escalator. There will be a contact person with a sign posting your name in the customs area, who will take you to meet the driver as you exit the San Jose International Airport. You will be met by driver as you exit the international airport. Enjoy the 20 minute drive up the mountains to the Xandari Resort, where you will spend one romantic evening unwinding from the travel in one of the country’s most romantic spots. Xandari is located on the northern mountains of the Central Valleys, offering spectacular views of the city. November 27th SAN JOSE – FLOR BLANCA

At 9:30am pick up time for the transfer to the local airport to take a 10:35am Sansa airlines flight to Tambor, upon landing, the staff from the hotel will pick you up and take you on a 1 hour drive to the Santa Teresa region in the tip of the Nicoya Peninsula. Arrive and check into a one bedroom villa at Flor Blanca.


November 28th – 29th FLOR BLANCA

While in the Nicoya Peninsula:

Surfing and Beach Hopping: Great beaches and superb surfing near the towns of Malpais and Montezuma. Isolated, white sand beaches provide opportunities for romantic strolls, sunbathing and relaxation.


Sport fishing: Boats with experienced crews and great service can be hired at most resorts. Whether you choose the half day in-shore or the full day off-shore expedition, you are guaranteed fun and excitement. Bring the catch of the day back to the hotel for the chef to prepare it for dinner.


Day tour to Tortuga Island. The island (no connection to sea turtles) is located near the Nicoya Peninsula. About 9 am , transfer to Tambor airstrip to take the 11;20am Sansa airlines flight back to San Jose, upon arrival, private transfer to Arenal volcano area., the driver will pick you up to take you on a 3 hour drive to the Northern Planes and the Arenal Volcano Region After the drive, arrive in the Arenal Region and check into a GARDEN/FOREST room at Tabacon Resort. Rest of the evening to enjoy the hot springs and Spa Treatments.


December 01st – 02nd ARENAL

Sharks can't scare off tourists

CHATHAM — They seemed a little more cautious yesterday, but beachgoers said two shark attacks on seals in two weeks wouldn't stop them from hitting the Chatham surf.
A report of a shark incident was relayed to the Chatham harbor master Sunday after a dead seal was found gutted on South Beach. The state's shark expert later determined the mauling was likely the work of a great white, the same type of shark blamed for last week's attack off North Beach, said Lisa Capone, spokeswoman for the state Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs.

Bourne, Sagamore bridges 'obsolete'

More than half of Cape Cod's 100 bridges are structurally deficient or functionally obsolete, according to information from the Federal Highway Administration.
Fifty of the region's bridges — including the Bourne Bridge and Sagamore Bridge — fall into the functionally obsolete category, according to the federal agency's National Bridge Inventory. And there are six structurally deficient bridges that require more immediate attention.

Once again, we lucked out with great weather again this year. I did a quick tally and it appears that we may have raised over $1500.00 for the Epilepsy Foundation. Swim Results

Thank you for supporting me by making a donation to the 2007 Swim Across America event. As I sit here sunburned, sore, and tired after a weekend of swimming, I can reflect on the smiles of the children at the Jimmy Fund. With water temps ranging from 57-63 degrees and jelly fish on Friday in the Boston Harbor, I was rallied by my swimmers from Cambridge Masters to return to cold water on Saturday morning for the beach swim at Nantasket Beach. I, personally, raised $3,935, and along with 13 Cambridge Masters Members, we raised $14715. In total, Swim Across America-Boston raised over $300,000 from this year’s events.

We draft 3 teams (pool of teams combined from AL and NL). 30 MLB teams / 10 teams = 3 teams each.
The order of the draft is picked out of a hat.
What we are playing for , in the regular season, is combined wins, running tally, by the three (3) teams you draft.
10 teams pick the first 2 MLB teams in the following draft order:
