The course proceeds out of Woods Hole and takes a right onto Church Street, then winds around Nobska Lighthouse and continues along the winding, hilly, tree-lined road.

At three miles the course emerges from the woods and continues for 1.5 miles along the beach, right next to the waters of Vineyard Sound.

It then turns left onto Shore Street and, 400 yards later, right onto Clinton Avenue.

At the end of Clinton Avenue it turns left onto Scranton Avenue, then 600 yards later right onto Robbins Road and the top of Falmouth Harbor.

At the end of Robbins Road it turns right onto Falmouth Heights Road and continues until runners once again meet the ocean.

At this point it turns left and heads up the hill and down the road to the finish line, near the Falmouth Heights Ball Field.

The first three miles are narrow, hilly, winding roads, while the last four miles are flat with a steep hill at the beginning of the last half-mile.

Best Lobster Roll

The Raw Bar serves a $22.50 lobster roll that’s so outlandishly gigantic, it has to be eaten with a knife and fork. The no-frills sandwich foregoes lettuce and celery. Instead, nothing but huge chunks of sweet lobster meat and mayonnaise are piled onto a roll with a big ice cream scoop. Other oversized offerings include the lobster feed bag of steamed lobster, chowder, steamers, kielbasa, and hot buttered corn on the cob. The modest bar setting can get rowdy, so Phantom likes to chill out with a frozen mudslide.

Dana Farber Cancer Institute

Hello Everyone,

As most of you may know, I have spent the last year coaching college and masters swimmers how to swim faster and more efficiently. It has been a rewarding and fulfilling year, and I am beginning to get myself back into the pool and back into shape. My return to long workouts and thousands of meters of swimming is motivated by my desire to help raise money for Dana Farber Cancer Institute. I am hoping that you will support me in my goal to reach $500.

On Thursday July 13th, along with a hand full of talented and gifted swimmers who support Swim Across America, I will once again spend the morning at Dana Farber visiting with young children who have cancer. Two days later on Saturday July 15th, I will be participating in a COLD water (sub 65 degrees), one-mile swim at Nantasket Beach in Hull, MA. This swim is not about finishing first, it is about raising money for the children who so bravely fight cancer.

If you would like to support me, please choose one or more of the following options:

1) Donate to the Swim Across America event. I have set up a secure on line donation website at http://www.active.com/donate/nantasket06/ScottVanK

2) Swim one of the Swim Across America events. Register at http://www.swimacrossamerica.com/get_involved.html

3) Volunteer for one of the Swim Across America events at http://www.swimacrossamerica.com/volunteer.html

4) Forward this email to anyone who might want to volunteer or donate to Swim Across America

If you have any questions about the event please email me at scotswim@rcn.com

Forest Grove educator to retire after 46 years

Frederick S. Rushton, retiring Forest Grove Middle School social studies teacher, right, congratulates student Meaghan A. Merrill during yesterday's culminating exercises, as School Committee member Ogretta V. McNeil looks on at center.

WORCESTER— When Frederick S. Rushton started teaching at Forest Grove Middle School in 1960, the brand-new school was considered “the school with a brain” because it had an intercom system and a machine that automatically rang the bells, turned up the heat, set the clocks and dimmed the hall lights. Forbes Power Rankings

Pay: $302 million
Power Rank 7
The List

An incredibly lucrative year for the shock jock, thanks to his rich contract with Sirius Satellite Radio, which pays him $100 million annually. (Stern pays all the production costs for his show.) The company also awarded him a one-time $225 million bonus in Sirius stock for meeting subscription benchmarks. That prompted a breach-of-contract lawsuit from CBS Radio, his old employer, which claimed that Stern used CBS airtime to plug Sirius. Stern settled the case in May for an undisclosed sum. The outsized compensation package prompted massive first-quarter losses for Sirius, which has seen its stock tumble 32% to $4.41 since the new year.Earnings estimates are for June 2005 to June 2006. Figures rounded off where appropriate. Exact figures available on Forbes.com. Includes dollars earned solely from entertainment income. Management, agent and attorney fees have not been deducted. Estimates by forbes; sources include Billboard, Pollstar, Adams Media Research, Nielsen SoundScan and Nielsen BookScan. Rankings are generated by combining earnings with other metrics: Web mentions on Google press clips compiled by LexisNexis; TV/radio mentions by Factiva; and number of times a celebrity's face appeared on the cover of 26 major consumer magazines.

8 8 8 Toast

Triple Eight Distillery's 4th Annual 8/8 @ 8pm Countdown

Triple Eight Distillery is broadening the tradition of their islandwide 888 Vodka Toast to include restaurants and liquor stores throughout the east coast. 88 establishments will participate this year.

At precisely 8pm ESTD on August 8th drinkers throughout New England will raise their glasses and salute a fine American distillery. Bartenders will hop up on their bars and read an ode to all things Nantucket , especially Triple Eight Vodka.

This year's signature cocktail will be Nantucket Tea, a new creation that is sweeping the island this summer. Start with equal parts Triple Eight Vodka and Triple Eight Orange, fill with Nantucket Nectars Lemonade, a splash of cranberry juice and float a dash of Hurricane Rum. The result is an irresistible cocktail with a Nantucket Red hue and a wonderfully refreshing flavor. Small samples will be passed to patrons just before 8pm on 8/8. When the clock strikes 8 O'clock down the hatch!

To make sure everyone is coordinated official Triple Eight countdown clocks will be placed at select restaurants throughout New England .

Folks all over are encouraged to participate. You don't need a countdown clock or a bar, just a bottle of 888 and some good friends. Last year people called the distillery from as far away as California to let us know they were throwing their own 8/8 @ 8pm party!
Welcome to another edition of ON TAP, the newsletter for friends of Cisco Brewers, Triple Eight Distillery and Nantucket Vineyard. We are gearing up for another great season on Nantucket. We have been busy all winter crafting fine libations for your enjoyment. We have also started construction on our new distillery.

We hope to see you all at the brewery soon and in the mean time go out to your local liquor stores and restaurants and request some of our fine products. Your consumer demand is what has allowed us to continue to grow off-island and broaden our offerings both on Nantucket and throughout New England.

Peace, Love, and 888,
Matt Lambo

Boston was ready to rename every bridge and tunnel after these guys.

Back to Pedro: I don't think the Red Sox should have matched New York's offer of $54 million over four years. That was absolute insanity. But if they made one mistake over the past three years, it was the way they handled Pedro's situation after their much-ballyhooed pursuit of Curt Schilling. How can you spend that much time, energy and money pursuing one star pitcher, sign him to a lucrative extension, include an incredible eight-figure bonus clause for winning the World Series ... and then tell your incumbent franchise pitcher, "Let's talk after next season when you're a free agent, maybe we can work something out." If you were Pedro, would you have taken the hometown discount to stay after that? Hell, no. If anything, you probably would have signed somewhere else and been extra-motivated to stick it to them.

Hogan Knows Best

"I'm 52-years-old, but I'm in pretty darn good shape and have been training hard.

"I spoke to Vince in New York on Sunday and he's asked me to come back. He wants to make me the Babe Ruth or Muhammad Ali of wrestling.

"Next April WrestleMania is back in Detroit, Michigan. Twenty years ago in the same city, at the same event, I bodyslammed Andre The Giant.

"Vince was saying to me: 'Oh my gosh, you have to be in the main event 20 years later.'

"We'll probably end up doing business."
